                    Naturalistic ABA

                    Picture
                    Naturalistic Applied Behavioral Analysis (NABA) The STARS Children’s Clinic is the only agency in Singapore who has imported one of the most effective behavioral programs from America - Naturalistic ABA. The STARS Children’s Clinic offers Naturalistic ABA, which focuses on applied behavior analysis of children with autism, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges.  NABA differs from ABA somewhat in that the relationship between the child and therapist are of utmost priority. It is only when a trusting and warm relationship is established that the child will be motivated to work through therapy.

                    Although NABA is similar to ABA in its structure and discrete trial training, it differs in its approach. Through the naturalistic and play approach, which are inherent within this therapy, children are more motivated to acquire skills taught and generalizability outside of the therapeutic environment accomplished.

                    Structure of Sessions:
                    Therapy is conducted one-on-one with our highly qualified behavioral therapists.  Programs are designed to suit each individual child’s needs. While the frequency and duration of sessions depend on a child’s needs, one session is typically 50 minutes long. Monthly clinic meetings with all professionals and caretakers of the child are encouraged.
                    During these meetings the clinic director, behavioral therapists and parents/caretakers meet to discuss the child’s progress, strengths and weaknesses to work on, to discuss and update the child’s program, etc. This type of therapy aims to help the child develop independence and typical skills needed to integrate into his/her environment. Many of our children have been successfully mainstreamed after intensive intervention at STARS Children’s Clinic.

                    What is worked on during sessions?
                    Each child will receive his/her own program tailored to his/her unique needs. However, NABA sessions are comprehensive in scope and generally work on the following key areas:
                                                                     * Spontaneous speech & language,
                                                                     * Social skills,
                                                                     * Motivation & attention,
                                                                     * Structured teaching,
                                                                     * Extinction of problematic behaviors
